KidzBlitz
KidzBlitz is a volunteer- and peer support-based initiative with the goal of decreasing the number of children who are eligible for public health care programs, such as Medicaid and the Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+).Our volunteers work directly with families to help them navigate through the application process for Medicaid and CHP+, including assisting families to secure required documentation, schedule application assistance appointments, and facilitate translation services.

In Colorado, there are approximately 180,000 uninsured children, close to 100,000 of whom are eligible for Medicaid or CHP+. Eligibility for these programs is determined by two basic qualifications: 1) Families must have an income that is less than 205% of the Federal Poverty Level, $43,464 for a family of four in 2008 (
VIEW INCOME CHART); and 2) Children applying for coverage must be US Citizens or legal permanent residents with appropriate documentation.

In May 2008, KidzBlitz released its first annual report, entitled “Breaking Barriers: Analysis and Recommendations to Improve Family Experiences with Public Health Care Programs in Colorado". The report was a result of volunteer, staff, and family experiences in KidzBlitz’s first year of operations, and examined the challenges families face as they apply for Medicaid and CHP+. “Breaking Barriers” places the primary problems encountered by volunteers and families into four categories: Application Assistance; Outreach Education & Training; Procedural Complexities; and Language, Culture & Immigration. Each of these categories is accompanied by realistic recommendations for the public health care community designed to simplify procedures and improve family experiences.

For more information about KidzBlitz or to request support for a family, please e-mail the KidzBlitz Program Manager, Monica Griego,

2010: All Kids Covered Initiative
The 2010: All Kids Covered Initiative is a partnership of over 50 organizations committed to ensuring that all Colorado children have access to health care coverage by the year 2010. The 2010 Initiative is funded by private foundations, including the David & Lucille Packard Foundation and the Colorado Health Foundation, and is led by four primary organizations:

Colorado Coalition for the Medically Underserved (Deborah Colburn)
Colorado Children’s Campaign (Tara Trujillo)
Covering Kids and Families (Stacey Moody)
Metro Organizations for People (Marilyn Stranske)

In addition, the 2010 Initiative receives technical assistance from the Georgetown Center for Children and Families and consulting services from the Center for Systems Integration and Gretchen Hammer, public leadership consultant.

In the 2008 legislative session, the 2010: All Kids Covered Initiative led the charge on Senate Bills 160 & 161, which increased access, improved care, and eliminated barriers for families eligible for CHP+. For more information on future legislative priorities, please download "All Colorado Kids Covered: A Roadmap to Coverage by 2010"

The 2010: All Kids Covered Initiative develops and advocates for sound public policy through the participation of its partner organizations. For information on joining the 2010 Initiative or receiving the 2010 newsletter, please email Gretchen Hammer,
